Dig Safe Month

BACK TO YOU: DON HURST

The Manitoba Common Ground Alliance (MCGA) and its members have designated April as Dig Safe Month in Manitoba. This month is dedicated to raising awareness of safe-digging practices across the province, to reduce the personal risks and potential damages to underground infrastructure and other property.

Dig Safe Month coincides with the start of spring-digging season and to serve as a reminder to homeowners and contractors that they need to call or click before they start digging.

It is everyone’s responsibility to “click before you dig” to locate potential underground utilities, helping keep safe those who work or live in the vicinity of underground facilities and to protect vital services.

What you can do:

  • Call for locates before beginning any outdoor digging project, large or small.
  • If a neighbour is planning a digging project, remind them to call or click for locates before they break ground.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding Dig Safe practices or locates, please contact MHCA WORKSAFELY®’s Jackie Kent ([email protected]) or your regional safety advisor.
